The Facilities Engineering Department is responsible for ensuring the reliability of the Lab’s electrical, mechanical, civil, structural and utility infrastructure. Facilities Engineering supports Laboratory stewardship by verifying system compliance with applicable codes and standards; and introducing new assessment technologies to deepen our understanding of safety, resilience and reliability.Maintenance & Operations (M&O)
The Facilities Division’s Maintenance and Operations Department at Berkeley Lab is essential for ensuring the reliable operation, maintenance, and safety use of facilities. Its core functions encompass the entire lifecycle of facility maintenance management, ranging from managing the initial work order process via the Work Request Center to executing all necessary maintenance and operations building activities including preventive, corrective, and minor maintenance.Site Services
The Site Services Department is the operational backbone of Berkeley Lab, delivering the essential site-wide support that ensures everyday safety, efficiency, and comfort. We manage the complex logistics that keep the Lab moving, including comprehensive custodial care, mail, shipping, and receiving operations from receipt to delivery, equipment transportation, and vehicle fleet oversight. In partnership with the Sustainability team, we champion green campus initiatives through responsible waste hauling. We also manage the Lab’s food services, vending machines, and oversee the Guest House.Sustainable Berkeley Lab
Sustainable Berkeley Lab collaborates with partners site-wide to optimize the Lab’s energy & water consumption, improve operations, transition to new technologies, and prevent waste.
