Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory currently maintains a fleet of over 260 vehicles utilized both on and off site throughout all divisions. Government vehicles are for official business only. Drivers assume personal responsibility for safe driving and operation of Government vehicles, including compliance with all Federal, State, and local (including LBNL) laws and regulations, and all accident reporting requirements. Anyone driving a government vehicle must possess a valid license. G-plate vehicles are leased, replaced and maintained by the U.S. General Service Administration (GSA).  Note: Smoking is prohibited in all government vehicles.

Remember:

• Safety is everyone’s primarily responsibility when using government vehicle.
• Familiarize yourself with the different features and operations of each government vehicle prior to driving (vehicle manual can be found in the glove compartment).
• Electric vehicles have distinctive differences in operation compared to non-electrical standard vehicles. For more information on operation, click here.
• Vehicles must be secured when not actively in use. This includes placing the vehicle in park, turning off the engine, setting the parking brake, and locking the vehicle with keys secured elsewhere.
• The on-site speed limit is 15 mph and when using government vehicles drivers are required to follow all laws and regulations. There is no smoking, vaping, or tobacco use allowed in government vehicles. Distracted driving is not allowed (e.g. no texting/cell phone use)
