Joseph Atkinson
Joseph joined LBNL in late 2019. Before joining the lab, Joseph spent over a decade in various leadership roles in the food and beverage manufacturing industry. Joseph has a passion for reliability centered maintenance and utilizing data and strategies to reduce asset downtime and improve equipment efficiencies.
Fun Fact: Joseph enjoys spending his time outdoors with his Boxer dog Axel. This includes camping, barbecuing, catching local sports events, or beer tasting at nearby breweries.

Carlos Escobedo
Carlos has over 15 years experience in the repair, installation and construction management of large Security, Access Control and Fire Life & Safety projects. He has worked with LBNL Facilities since 2015. Prior to joing the team of Facilities Area Managers, Carlos has served the lab as a Facilities Fire Alarm Electician and a Facilities Maintenance Planning Specialist. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in law from his native country, is NICET and CA DIR certified.
Fun Fact: Carlos enjoys spending time with his family.

Cannon Faasse
Cannon is a Certified Facility Manager (CFM) with over 17 years of Operations/Facilities Management experience. Prior to joining the lab in May 2021, Cannon worked in the Biotechnology/Medical Device and Healthcare industries. He has extensive experience in construction, facilities/equipment maintenance, compliance and environment, health, and safety.
Fun Fact: Cannon enjoys mountain biking and experiencing the great outdoors. Improvisational cooking is another passion that allows him to get in touch with his creative side and spread the joy to his loved ones.

Samuel Phillips
Sam Phillips provides leadership for the team of Facilities Area Managers (FAMs) and Work Scheduling. Sam came to LBNL in 2013 as a plumber and advanced into positions in work planning and control and Facilities Management. Before coming to LBNL, Sam worked in maintenance and construction at Diablo Nuclear Power Plant, Kaiser hospitals across the Bay Area, and Levi’s Stadium. Sam is a Certified Facility Manager (CFM) and has a technical mechanical apprenticeship certification in Plumbing and Pipefitting.

Richard Reisinger
Rich has 30+ years experience in maintenance and facilities management and began working at LBNL in early 2019. He began his career as a nuclear mechanic on a fast attack submarine and Quality Assurance Supervisor in the US Navy. He then moved into facilities management in the bio-pharmaceutical world where he spent the next 20 years until he joined the Facilities Operations team at LBNL as a Facilities Area Manager.
Fun Fact: Rich enjoys getting away from it all on the weekends with his wife Jennifer and his little dude Vincent. He also coaches youth sports, including baseball and football, loves to golf, and BBQing on his smoker.

Adam Shervanian
Adam is a Certified Facility Manager (CFM) with over 15 years of experience supervising and managing facility operations in a wide range of industries and complex facilities. Before relocating to the Bay Area, he was the Facility Manager with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT, and has worked at CBRE, Global Workplace Solutions in New Hampshire, and with the University of Maryland, School of Public Health. Adam enjoys developing collaborative working relationships with faculty, researchers and operational staff and has extensive experience in operations and maintenance, budgeting, project management, strategic planning, safety, and improving work processes.
Fun Fact: Adam enjoys hiking, biking, trail running, exploring nature and traveling.

Chris Gonzalez
With over a decade of experience managing facilities in research labs, clinical settings, and academic environments within the UC system, Chris Gonzalez is a dedicated professional specializing in strategic facility management. Chris’s expertise lies in strategizing on customer-driven priorities and ensuring seamless business continuity. He is committed to solidifying partnerships that add value and drive success for all stakeholders.Originally from Los Angeles, Chris found his professional and personal home in the Bay Area after graduating from UC Santa Barbara. Now, as a part of FAC and LBNL, Chris is enthusiastic about the opportunity to collaborate with exceptional teams to achieve outstanding results and contribute to innovative projects.
Fun Fact: Outside of his professional endeavors, he is an avid traveler, having recently explored vibrant destinations like Mexico and China.

Paul Becker
Paul is a Certified Facility Manager (CFM) with over 20 years of facilities management experience. He has managed over 4 million square feet and 20 people across a range of industries. His hands-on experience has allowed him to not only gain a solid understanding of facilities and their related systems, but also of the people that maintain, service, and occupy the facilities. Paul has successfully completed many facility construction projects that have provided exceptional working spaces while saving costs and time to completion.

Rick Smith
Rick is a Facility manager with over 20+ years of experience in supervising and managing facility operations ranging from healthcare to electronics. Rick is a Bay Area native , born and raised in Fremont, California. Before coming to Lawrence Berkeley Labs, Rick has been a senior facility manager at Stanford Healthcare, Sun Microsystems and Apple Computers. Rick has a background in both Lean and Six Sigma, leading and participating in many different complex mid to high range projects. He has an extensive background in operations and maintenance.
Fun Fact: Rick enjoys camping, playing guitar and drawing.

Jon Wolfsen
Jon Wolfsen is the Lab’s new Facilities Area Manager, bringing over 15 years of experience in facilities management. He previously worked at Genentech in SSF, where he cultivated customer relationships, provided facility maintenance coordination, as well as leading continuous improvement projects across their lower campus Manufacturing, QC, and Pilot Plant buildings. Born and raised in the Los Angeles South Bay, Jon has lived in the Bay Area for the past 26 years and has a BA from UC Davis. Jon is actively involved with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and has contributed as a Crisis Counselor at Crisis Support Services of Alameda County. He is also a regular blood donor, donating platelets every 2 – 3 weeks at Vitalant. He just recently got married and is planning a honeymoon to Vancouver. Jon is grateful and excited for the opportunity to work with FAC and LBNL and is eager to collaborate with this great group of talented people.
Fun Fact: Outside of work, he enjoys open water swimming, RPG’s, snow-boarding, skateboarding, and hiking.
